Game Overview
The Club is the kind of game that analysts like ourselves love, it is different and therefore gives us a chance to really feel worthwhile as we know gamers around the globe will be looking on the net to try and find out what the game is like before they part with their hard earned cash.
The Club is predominantly a FPS however it is most definitely a FPS with a difference and at last we are starting to see off-shoots of a genre. Rather than walk around, following a storyline and killing enemy after enemy in an attempt to save the world you are part of a Club (surprise surprise). This Club consists of characters who enjoy killing people however, when they kill people it is for points and sometimes against the clock, if that makes sense. You'll take part in tournaments against the other members of The Club, make your way through a small level in an attempt to find the exit, without getting killed and killing as many generic looking characters along the way.
Points are scored by killing people in quick succession, stringing kills together in a combo style and generally being as stylish and as smooth as possible whilst rearranging people’s insides with a shotgun. There is no storyline, there is no save the girl, save the world malarkey, it's purely kill for points and see where you rank in the tournament.
The AI in a game like this need to be the best for it to be a challenge, unfortunately it doesn't quite "cut the mustard" in that department, and although some of your targets will run off behind a barrel of wall, they'll soon jump out and allow you to put a bullet straight between their eyes. Some of the game modes require you to do three laps of the level in the quickest time possible but at the same time scoring points by killing people en-route, a cool idea that we can't say we have ever really seen before but when the characters re appear in the same place lap after lap just a different looking guy it becomes a little annoying.
Another game mode on offer is one where you are confined to a certain area, step out of that area for too long and you'll die. Your goal is to stay alive till the time runs out, at the same time killing characters who are rather pathetically trying to kill you. Again, it is something a little different but unfortunately it is a little easy and you won't really be pushed anywhere near your limit unless you particularly suck at FPS games.
Graphics and sound are both very sturdy turnouts for The Club, some of the graphics are very pleasing to see in particular the title sequence when you first put the game in the disk tray. The only exception to that statement is the noises some of the guns make in particular the rapid fire guns, something doesn't quite sound right and most of the guns do give of a rather tinny version of their real life counterpart.

Our Conclusions
There is no denying that change is most definitely good in this instance. The Club is refreshing, different and keeps you on the edge of your seat with a very different style of playing an FPS. There probably aren't too many directions this style of game can go in but for now enjoy what is on offer and thank Sega for experimenting a bit!
Overall Score: 7.5/10
Thanks to Sega
